Steve Spurrier clinched college football’s highest honor when he waved off UF’s starting kicker and nailed a last second field goal on national TV (a rarity at that time) to beat Auburn on Oct. 29, 1966.
Spurrier is also the only person to win a Heisman as a player and coach a Heisman winner (Danny Wuerffel 1996). By the way, Danny has been kind enough to let us borrow his Heisman from time to time for our display.
Steve's Heisman is also the first double Heisman given, one for the player and one to the team.
